Mr. Sheppard is the author of the chapter on foreclosures in the book "Arizona Civil Remedies" published by the State Bar. He has lectured extensively on foreclosures and matters relating to real estate lending transactions. He has served as Chairman of the State Bar Subcommittee regarding the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act which was subsequently adopted by the Arizona legislature. In 1992 he was the Chairman of the Arizona State Bar Convention. In 1993-94 he served as chairman of a State Bar Outreach Committee which ultimately led to the formation and recognition by the State Bar of the Arizona Gay and Lesbian Lawyers Association.

He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Arizona Theatre Company and was Chairman from 1995-1997. In 1997 he received the Arizona Theatre Award for Distinguished Service, and in 2000 was awarded the “Georgy” from the Arizona Theatre Company for outstanding commitment to theatre. He is the past chair of the Phoenix Arts Commission and is currently a member of the Arizona Commission on the Arts. He also serves as Vice President of the Arizona Advocates for the Arts.

Mr. Sheppard has done extensive pro bono work for various valley AIDS organizations. He received the AIDS Project Arizona Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 and the Phoenix Body Positive Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
